Since April 1, 2002, the registration and management of JP domain names has been undertaken by Japan Registry Services Co., Ltd. (JPRS). At present, the work relating to domain names undertaken by JPNIC is as follows:

• Developing JP domain name dispute resolution policy (JP-DRP) and related work
  • Establishing and revising JP domain name dispute resolution policy and rules
  • Accrediting dispute resolution service providers
  • Surveys on the discussion in ICANN, WIPO, etc. on trends in domain name disputes

• Providing information on domain names
  • Disseminating information on domain names from around the world and responding to inquiries from within Japan, in Japanese
  • Disseminating information on Japanese domain names and responding to inquiries from around the world, in English

    • Statistics on JP Domain Names
• Participating and collaborating in the creation of rules for global domain name management, under the leadership of ICANN
  • Trend surveys of ICANN, etc.
  • Attending ICANN meetings, etc.
  • Deliberation, proposal and implementation of domain name policy
• Research on domain names and domain name system
  • Research on route servers
  • Research on publishing information via WHOIS, and privacy issues
• Work relating to the escrow of JP domain name registry data
  • Work relating to the escrowing (depositing with a third party) of registry data as specified in the ccTLD Sponsorship Agreement between ICANN and JPRS
