About this symposium

The Internet technology established with the ARPANET research in the 1970th has had a tremendous impact not only to the information technology sector, but also all our social activities. Although the Internet was invented before quarter of a century ago, it has achieved higher performance in various features, taking with incremental improvement efforts, e.g., to adapt diversified infrastructure technology including high-speed circuits and wireless links, to increase the volume of network delivered data, and to expand broader application areas as audio and visual real-time application.

On the other hand, today's requirement for network, such as, a higher reliability and quality of service, a modest device support as sensor nodes, and optimal higher volume data delivery is a strong driver to change the current Internet represented by the end to end principle. By the the background of changing Internet in architectural level, new generation network research and development project as AKARI has been initiated in Japan. In world wide, some projects to share the same agendas have been also started such as NeTSE in USA, and Future network research on FP7 in EU.

We are planning this symposium, since it is believed to be an important to share experiences and knowledges including failures and mistakes, on the day that starts discussion about the fundamental principles including end to end principle. The deployment and the operation in the future network are also taken for the main scope of the symposium, because they are believed as critical for the future network success as same as research and development efforts.

Furthermore, this symposium is planned to respect Dr, Hirabaru's wishes for new generation network. He sadly passed away in July 2008.

Registration

We strongly recommend pre-registration before Feb. 20, though on-site registration is available. Because, we would like to estimate the attendance for the preparation. Also, the pre-registered will smoothly pass the gate security of NICT.

To make registration, please complete the registration form and send it to sympo-2009@itrc.net by e-mail. The contact for the symposium is also sympo-2009@itrc.net.

The registration fee of the symposium excluding the reception charge is free.
