6. JPNIC Steering Committee Report Japanese Page

Steering Committee discusses activity reports of the Secretariat and Working Groups, deliberations and approvals of undertakings planned by Working Groups and vaious issues in question. Meetings are held at the JPNIC Secretariat meeting room every month. Here, we would like to introduce selected discussions and resolutions from the 35th through 39th meetings. At the 37th meeting, the personnel changed in accordance with organizational changes.

The 35th Steering Committee Meeting

The 35th Steering Committee meeting was held on Tuesday, March 21, 2000.The meeting discussed such a topic as transfer of domains from OR to NE, and was reported on the launch of registration service on March 1, which enables our customers to register name servers that have IPv6 addresses in the JPNIC databese.

In addition, many questions and opinions were exchanged deliberating such issues as suspended distribution of the domain lists, and temporary suspension of database information disclosure. It was decided that the former issue would continue to be discussed within the Database Administration Working Group, and for the latter, that proposed policy and levels pertaining to information disclosure would be made available to the public.

The 36th Steering Committee Meeting

The 36th Steering Committee was held on Wednesday, April 26, 2000. In this meeting, various deliberations were proposed and approved, such as the 1999 business report (draft), and whether or not AS number assignment should become an official service, with a management system and proper maintenance of documents.

Moreover, a great many questions and opinions were exchanged in the deliberation regarding the contents of the First Report of the "JP Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy," as well as the future direction. It was decided that the Committee would continue to discuss the basic principles for approval, as well as studying the system

The 37th Steering Committee Meeting

The 37th Steering Committee Meeting was held on Thursday, May 25, 2000. The transfer to the new organizational structure took place from this meeting. After reports were presented by members of the previous Committee, deliberations were led by the new personnel.

Deliberations on JP Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, and information closure related to individual privacy information, were carried over from the 36th meeting. Additionally, the use of Japanese character and other non-alphabetical characters for domain name,ICANN At Large Membership were discussed.

The 38th Steering Committee Meeting

The 38th Steering Committee meeting was held on Thursday, June 8, 2000. This meeting focused on presentations and approval of activity policies and member structure of each Working Group under the new organizational structure. Please refer to "4-1 JPNIC Organizational Changes" (p.17) for more details.

The 39th Steering Committee Meeting

The 39th Steering Committee meeting was held on Monday, July 10, 2000. This meeting focused on issues of domains, and reports detailing the revised activity plans (charters) of each Working Group, which were taken up at the previous Steering Committee meeting.

There were especially active exchanges of opinion concerning the Final Report regarding "JP Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy," and revision of the domain name registration rules.
