GUIDE TO ENTERING THE PROJECT INFORMATION
JPNIC Database Management Group
(Latest Revision: 9 September 1993)
JPNIC Members must register the information related to the network
projects that they operate in the form of network information in the
JPNIC database. The various records of the project information are
described in this document. See the document "How to Enter JPNIC
Registration Form"(jpnic/form-info.txt) general information on the
registration form.
Also, JPNIC does not in any way guarantee the connectability, etc.,
of the networks to the member network projects. The network
connectability always depends on the mutual agreements made between
the different network projects.
(In the below, each item is filled in Japanese, hence no translation is
given here.)
- Enter the abbreviated name of the network project in the
[プロジェクト略称](Project Abbreviated Name) field using only ASCII
characters without any intermediate spaces. Further, it is not
possible for several different network projects to use the same
abbreviated network name. When several network projects request for
the same abbreviated network name, the project registering first
will be given priority for the use of that abbreviated name. As a
rule, make sure that the abbreviated network name is the same as
the member abbreviation entered at the time of applying for membership.
- Enter the official name of the network project in Japanese and in
English, respectively, in the [プロジェクト名](Project Name) and
[Project] fields. As a rule, make sure that the official network name
is the same as the member official name entered at the time of applying
for membership.
- Enter the domain name that is being used by that project for network
management in the [管理ドメイン名](Management Domain Name) field.
The address of the management domain name will be used when the
information related to address of the network project is required.
It is not necessary for the management domain name to be an AD.JP
domain. JPNIC assigns a specific meaning to a particular address
under the management domain name. At present, we suggest the
preparation of the following mail addresses.
postmaster@<management domain name>
info@<management domain name> : This is the address for inquiring
about the information related to
the network project.
- Enter the JPNIC handle of the administrative contact of the network
project in the [運用責任者](Administrative Contact) field. The
administrative contact should, as a rule, be the same person as the
manager in charge registered at the time of applying for membership.
- Enter the JPNIC handle of the technical contact of the network project
in the [技術連絡担当者](Technical Contact) field. All inquiries
regarding the contents of registration of the project information will
be made to this technical contact. It is possible to register several
persons as the technical contacts. All the technical contacts of all
the network projects will automatically be registered in the JPNIC
technical communications mailing list.
- List the abbreviated names of all the NOCs installed in that project
in the [NOC略称](NOC Abbreviated Name) field. The network projects
that do not use the IP protocol need not register NOCs. The entry
in the [NOC略称](NOC Abbreviated Name) field can also be the same as
the entry in the [プロジェクト略称](Project Abbreviated Name) field.
The abbreviated name should be entered using only ASCII characters
without any intermediate spaces. Also, it is not permissible for
several different NOCs to use the same abbreviated name. When several
projects request for the same abbreviated NOC name, the network project
registering first will be given priority for the use of that name.
Further, the NOC information is used for searching for the physical
organization of the IP network, and is likely to be changed into the
format of AS information, etc., in the future.
- Enter the names of all domains (directly under ({AC, AD, CO, GO, OR}.JP)
and the names of all IP network addresses to which that network project
is allowed connection in the [接続ドメイン名](Connection Domain Name)
and the [接続IPネットワーク](Connection IP Network) fields, respectively.
JPNIC considers it very important to make sure that, whenever there
is a fault in a network or the network was used in a wrong manner,
it is possible to search using the domain name or the IP address the
organization or person who can meet such a condition in a responsible
manner. The organization or person who can meet such a condition in
a responsible manner is firstly the organization or the administrative
contacts using that domain or IP address, but when they can not meet
the requirements, it will be the network project and the administrative
contact of the project to which the faulty organization is connected.
Therefore, the network project should enter with responsibility
the domain names and the IP addresses to which the project is
connected in the [接続ドメイン名](Connection Domain Name) and the
[接続IPネットワーク](Connection IP Network) fields.
Normally, the network project should enter the domain names and the
IP network addresses which are allowed to communicate with the
organizations belonging to the other network projects (according to
a fixed set of rules) via the lines belonging to that project.
In view of the above, it is not necessary to enter in these records
the items that are based on the mutual connection between two projects.
On the other hand, it will be necessary to make the entries regarding
the domain names and IP addresses that have connection relationships
with multiple network projects (multiple platforms) in the project
information entries of all the corresponding network projects.
JPNIC will register in the domestic name servers only those domain
names and IP addresses for which the responsibility is being borne
by some network project.
At present, although all the network projects that are JPNIC members
can make entries in these records, in the future, it is proposed to
investigating allowing the entry of these records only to those network
projects that satisfy a specific set of technical conditions.
- Enter all of the domain names (directly under ({AC, AD, CO, GO, OR}.JP)
and all of the IP network addresses that are allowed connection to
the foreign links possessed by that network project in the
[海外認定ドメイン名](Approved Foreign Domain Name) and the
[海外認定IPネットワーク](Approved Foreign IP Network) fields,
respectively. These fields should not be entered by the network
projects that do not possess any foreign links.
Similar the [接続ドメイン名](Connection Domain Name) and the
[接続IPネットワーク](Connection IP Network) fields, these fields are
intended to make clear the network projects that have responsibility
towards connection to foreign links. Since not all the network
projects have their own independent links to international circuits,
the responsible network projects for domestic links will not
necessarily be the same as the responsible network projects for
foreign links.
JPNIC will register in the foreign name servers only those domain names
and IP addresses for which the responsibility is being borne by some
network project. (This excludes the case when the organization has
its own foreign links.)
At the time of making entries in these records, sufficient care should
be taken about the regulations pertaining to the use of international
communication circuits.
