Support for Schools in Germany on Different Levels I:
Public and Public-Private Partnerships

    National Level: Schools Online (http://www.san-ev.de/)

    • Including hardware, software, Internet connection, telecommunication expenses, help desk, teacher training, teaching resources, short and middle term projects, content development, competitions etc.
    • Initiative by the Federal Ministry of Education, Deutsche Telekom and other sponsors
    • Connected (i.e. Internet access from at least one PC) 1/3 of all German schools (60% of elementary schools) until 07/1999
    • All 44 000 German Schools shall be connected until 2001.

    State Level (Example: North-Rhine-Westphalia (NRW))

    Regional and City Level

    Big German Cities (like Duesseldorf, Koeln or Dortmund in NRW) often have city solutions in the form of contracts with local carriers or computer companies.

    Local Level

    Example Gymnasium Zum Altenforst (GAT), Troisdorf
    innovative junior/senior highschool; cooperation with local evening school, companies, alumni who study computer science and now design the network, train teachers etc., marketing students' Internet classes for the general public http://www.altenforst.de/akademie/
